Update: I am almost finished with Vogue 8398. I managed to find a piece of black linen fabric in my stash. I think the jacket is turning out well.
My Butterick 5191 top is coming along fine. The only issue I have is I am not shaped right for that kind of wrap top. I have a little too much fluff for a slender looking top. It looks great on "Susie-Q" (my dressform).
Pictures and reviews for V8398 and B3191 will be posted shortly.
I have been going through my pattern stash and came up with the following jackets for upcoming projects. I am definitely in a jacket-sewing mood.
I am still recovering from my wonderful trip and hope to get back into my sewing quickly.

Weekend in NJ/NYC
I have been away from my sewing and my computer for the last few days. I made a trip to NJ to attend a beautiful wedding.
I was able to take a few side trips to NYC. Unfortunately, I was not able to stop in Moods or any of the wonderful fabric stores I have been hearing about on PatternReview.com. My DB and SIL are not into "sewing"...so fabric shopping was not part of the NYC agenda. I have made a promise to myself that the next trip I make to NYC, will be with another fellow sewer or my DH. Even DH said he would give me some time to fabric shop.
We did stop by Macy's and had a wonderful surprise. They were having a Flower Show. The main windows were decorated with flowers and the mannequins were dressed in "flower dresses" made up of flowers.

Taking pictures of the windows was difficult as you can see the reflection of the many people and buildings surrounding Macy's. Hey...we were in NYC, right?
I was able to wear my black and white brocade vest I made to my cousin's wedding. Hopefully, my DB has a picture of me from the wedding. (It's the same vest I have reviewed on PR.com...see sidebar on the right).

Being a "Super" Great Teacher and Friend
I enjoy teaching. It started many years ago while I was working for a large corporation as an Info Tech (IT) Admin. I loved working with computers and enjoyed building desktop systems as a hobby. My enthusiasm for helping others with computer problems led me to teach a few basic computer classes to my fellow co-workers. MS-DOS, Lotus 1-2-3, WordPerfect, etc. (Is my age showing now?)
Now, I am teaching the basics of sewing. It seems appropriate since sewing is my all-time favorite hobby.
I received a really nice surprise on the last day of my sewing class. One of my sewing students, Gloria, had given me a dressform pincushion (pictured here). I was estatic to receive such a wonderful gift and it is proudly displayed on my sewing desk. In her note, she thanked me for being a "super" great teacher and friend. Words cannot express how that touched my heart. That is why I love to teach.
I dressed up my new pincushion by adding a necklace and a belt with my pins. Too bad they don't make rhinestone head pins. Can you imagine the bling on this pincushion?
BTW, I am still intrigued with computer technology and my two sewing machines are computerized.
(Kat-a big thank you for helping me figure out how to post my pictures...you're the best!)
(Gloria-if you happen to stumble on this post...remember to keep sewing...and thank you for being such a wonderful student)
Happy Sewing!

Now that Spring is here
I am planning my sewing projects for the next two weeks. I have come up with the following pattern choices: Butterick 5191 and Vogue 8398.
The patterns have been traced and ready for fabric selection. This time I plan on using fabric from my stash. I have to restrain myself from purchasing more fabric as storage is a constant issue. Sounds familiar?
I have been on a Spring cleaning binge...organizing my sewing area and removing unnecessary clutter. I have also spent some time taking inventory of my pattern stash. Like you, I have a lot!
I hope to post some pictures of how I organize my sewing area. For some reason, I get an error when I try to "add a picture" inside my post. Help! As a new blogger, I am open to any wonderful suggestions on this picture posting issue.

G-Street Fabrics Online
Yes, that is correct. They have started an online store. Here is the link to G-Street Fabrics.
Now, I know it is not the same as going there in person and doing the "touchy and feeling" on every fabric. Atleast it is another online fabric resource.
Enjoy!

It's Official...
I am now a member of the sewing blog community. Okay, okay...I know it is a general blog community, but my blog will be mostly about sewing and I might throw in some other hobbies that I have interests in. I am amazed how easy it was to create one. It only took me an hour to figure out the basics: how to create one, set it up, and start blogging.
I will be back as I now need to finish tracing and cutting out my fabrics and sew up my new garments and accessories.
I will also be back to finish creating my layout of my new blog and adding pictures.
Stay tuned...
Happy Easter!
